Berry Gordy was shocked to learn of this from Stevie Wonder and Berry Gord signed Stevie Wonder's offer of greater independence and full creative control as well as rights to all of his music. Stevie Wonder signed a contract of 13 million dollars with MoTown Records in 1972. Stevie Wonder was entitled to more royalty and more creative control and rights over his songs. This was a unique chance for artists of the time. The agreement allowed Wonder's music as well as videos to talk about controversial subjects like drugs, war, poverty and even politics. His album from 1972, Music Of My Mind was the first to be released under his new MoTown deal. Talking Book, Stevie Wonder's 1972 album, stands as a landmark in the history of music. This album featured Superstition, the number-one hit single.
